Bencic withdraws, replaced by Cornet

2nd August 2020

Belinda Bencic will not play at the 2020 Prague Open. World No. 8 did not state the reason for her withdrawal. She will be replaced by Alize Cornet.

Bencic did not state the reason why she would not go to Prague. However, it can be assumed that he will want to prepare for American hard court tournaments, which would be an understandable decision in view of the upcoming US Open.

"I regret not participating in the tournament. I wish the organizers to be able to organize a successful event," Bencic supported the Czech tournament.

Her spot in the main draw will be taken by Alizé Cornet, World No. 59 from France.

The event at Prague's Sparta clay courts will take place from August 10 to 16. "We are in daily contact with all the players and their managers. We have no indication that any further withdrawals should come. We are still preparing for the participation of an extremely strong line up," the tournament director David Trunda said.

After all, Simona Halep, Petra Martic or Markéta Vondroušová will play in Prague. And there may be more interesting names to come. "We still have a few wild cards available. We are negotiating them with WTA and Czech Tennis Association," Trunda added.
